What RoboTrunk does

RoboTrunk searches the public catalogues of independent stores whose Universal Commerce Protocol checkout it has verified. It shows each product with the price and stock the store published and the time they were read, and it prepares a checkout at the store that sells the product. Once you approve the item and total, you or your authorised agent can open a short-lived link to the store's checkout. Your agent can continue and pay there using a payment method you have authorised, within the permissions you grant. RoboTrunk checks readable store totals against the approved budget ceiling before handing over the checkout. Payment happens at the store, not through RoboTrunk.

The store is the seller

When you buy through RoboTrunk, you buy from the store named on the product page and on its checkout page. The store sells the product, takes the payment, ships the order and handles returns, refunds and warranties under its own terms and policies.

RoboTrunk is not the seller or the merchant of record. We do not take or hold your money, and we never see card details. Questions about delivery, returns, refunds or faulty goods go to the store.

Prices, stock and product facts

Prices and stock come from each store's own public catalogue, with the time they were read. They can change. The price and total shown on the store's checkout page are the ones that apply.

Product information comes from store catalogues and, where researched, manufacturer information, manuals, independent reviews and video review transcripts. Each published checked fact identifies its source and the date it was read. Research coverage varies by product.

Agents acting for you

If an agent uses RoboTrunk for you, you are responsible for the instructions and permissions you give it and for the actions it takes within those permissions, including checkout details it submits and purchases it completes on your behalf. Review the item, quantity, delivery details, total and payment permissions before authorising a purchase. An agent can search and prepare a checkout. Once you have approved the item and total, the agent can continue at the store's checkout and pay with a payment method you have authorised, within your approved scope. It must ask you again before paying a higher total or making a purchase outside that scope. It cannot pay through RoboTrunk: payment happens on the store's own checkout page. This section does not remove any responsibility the law places on RoboTrunk or the store.

A prepared checkout is not an order. It can be cancelled at any time before it is paid, and it expires if nobody opens the link.

Budget ceilings

An agent can set a budget ceiling when it prepares a checkout. RoboTrunk then refuses to hand over a checkout whose total at the store, including shipping and tax, is above that ceiling, including when the store's price rises after the checkout was prepared, and tells the agent to ask you before going further. If a store does not publish totals RoboTrunk can read, the ceiling cannot be checked, and RoboTrunk says so instead of refusing. Always check the total on the store's checkout page before you pay.

The sandbox example product

RoboTrunk also lists one example product of its own so the purchase steps can be tried. It is a sandbox: it takes no real payment, places no order and ships nothing.

Using the site fairly

Please do not try to get around the site's rate limits, interfere with the site or its other users, or use RoboTrunk to break the law. We may limit or block access that does.

Changes

RoboTrunk is new and changes often. Features, stores and products can be added, changed or withdrawn, and a store can stop being listed at any time. When these terms change, the date at the top of this page changes with them.

Your rights

Nothing in these terms limits any consumer right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded under the law that applies to you, including the Australian Consumer Law where it applies.
